This is the only cream cheese frosting recipe you will ever need. It's velvety smooth and perfectly sweet. The perfect compliment to carrot cake, ginger bread, red velvet cake or just to spread on a graham cracker! It is literally the 100% addictive "frosting on the cake".

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz cream cheese, room temperature 2 (8oz) blocks of cream cheese
  • 12 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 8 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • cream together cream cheese and butter until completely smooth
  • add vanilla and combine well
  • add powdered sugar two cups at a time until all incorporated and smooth

Notes

This recipe makes a large batch of icing.   More than enough to ice a layer cake.   You will certainly have left over icing.  It can also be halved.  If not using right away cover and refrigerate.  Then let it come to room temperature before icing your cake.  Store covered cake in the refrigerator.
